About
Our Story
RiverTrail Beerworks is Saranac Lake’s only riverfront brewpub. Located at 79 Woodruff Street, we are right on the Saranac Lake River Walk and right next to the Rail Trail (hence, RiverTrail). We have an large, heated, screen-in patio, two firepits right on the river, and lots of Adirondack chairs to sit outside. Inside we have a large indoor and outdoor bar, two dining rooms, pool tables, and two Trackman Golf Simulators. We serve lunch and dinner daily. Our chef Justin Congdon has crafted a wonderful menu with locally-sourced ingredients. We are proud to offer interesting vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free items on our menu. Our in-house brewery offers twelve house beers on tap as well as four guest taps from our fellow New York brewers, and we offer various other domestic and craft beer selections. Our house beers are available to-go in cans and crowlers. For those non-beer drinkers, we offer a full bar with wine, liquor, prosecco, and ciders. Choose one of our signature house cocktails or a mocktail.

Our Food
Our chefs source most of our ingredients locally, and we offer the freshest food in the area. This is not your typical pub grub, but it is approachable and delicious. Our menu features snacks, salads, sandwiches, Detroit style pizzas and delicious entrees.
Many items on our menu are vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free for those with special dietary needs.

Our Founder
Christopher & Catherine Ericson officially opened Big Slide in June of 2016. Chris has also owned and operated The Lake Placid Pub & Brewery since he founded the company in 1996 at the age of 24. He graduated from Williams College with degrees in History and Psychology in 1993 then decided to pursue microbrewing in his native Maine at Kennebunkport / Shipyard Brewing Company. He then was hired as Head Brewer at The Shed Restaurant & Brewery in Stowe, Vermont, where he worked for a year and a half. During that time, Christopher and a friend from Williams wrote a business plan and their search for a location led them to Lake Placid. In 2000, Chris & Catherine married, and Catherine began working as a crucial part of the ownership structure. Chris’s beers have received dozens of awards in both international and national competitions.
Our Bakery
Bake Placid was created with the intent of producing exceptional baked goods, desserts and pastries to supplement the menus of Rivertrail Beerworks, the Lake Placid Pub & Brewery and Big Slide Brewery & Public House.
Executive Baker Luke Ayers works with our chefs to provide the highest quality products, made from scratch with quality, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
